Thanks to its unique location in the heart of virgin nature, in a mountainous environment and inside the Veľká Fatra National Park, the Smrekovica mountain lodge is an ideal base for nature lovers. A stay at the lodge can be combined with observing wildlife and getting to know it with the help of experienced guides from Zaži Fatra.
Following the footsteps of the wolf pack
- The accommodation package consists of:
– evening lecture on a given topic
– full-day trip with an experienced local guide
– accommodation/meals with half board - 1. day
The accommodation package starts with dinner and after dinner with a lecture about wolves, Veľká Fatra, nature in Fatra, fauna and flora in general.
The priority topic is the wild wolf.
– Let’s get to know the wild wolf and its habitat.
– Should we be afraid of wolves?
– Why does it attack sheep flocks and where is the “dog” buried?
– Effective protection against wolves.
– Stories about wolves, experiences.
– photos and videos of wolves and their observation - 2. day
The next day, right after breakfast and coffee, a trip to the field.
Route for about 8 hours.
Transfer by your own car towards Trlenská dolina.

Residential signs, searching for tables. Why not see the wolf at all? - We will learn in the field:
– The difference between a wolf trail and a wolfhound’s (dog) trail
– The difference between a commercial forest and a virgin forest
– Observing nature and why its protection is important
– Inconspicuous wolf trails and their activity.

Additional information
- Clothing for the excursion: In the mountains, the weather can surprise at any time – whether it’s cold or a local storm, it’s common. We recommend wearing clothes appropriate to the time of year and the weather, and also packing gloves, a hat, functional clothing and a warmer jacket – it will come in handy if you’re observing animals for a longer period of time. High hiking boots and a raincoat or waterproof jacket are a must.
