Thanks to its unique location in the heart of virgin nature, in a mountainous environment and inside the Veľká Fatra National Park, the Smrekovica mountain lodge is an ideal base for nature lovers. A stay at the lodge can be combined with observing wildlife and getting to know it with the help of experienced guides from Zaži Fatra.

- The accommodation package consists of:
– evening lecture on a given topic
– full-day trip with an experienced local guide
– accommodation/meals with half board - 1. day
The accommodation package starts with dinner and after dinner a lecture about the incredible flora of the Velká Fatra and the nature of the Fatra in general. We will see beautiful photos of rare plants. Beautiful videos of fauna and flora. - 2. day
The next day, right after breakfast and coffee, a field trip. The route takes about 8 hours. Searching for orchids and rare plants, the most diverse meadow in the Velká Fatra below Rakytov. - Short lectures at specific stops.
- A tour of the reserve, hitchhiking, behavior in nature, what to do if you encounter a bear, learning about fauna and flora, views.
- In the field we will learn:
- the difference between commercial forest and virgin forest,
- demonstration of bear spray and its use in practice,
- examples of protected plants, orchids and herbs,
- why it is important to protect them and their diverse habitats and meadow communities,
- which plant is edible and which is poisonous?
- can we pick flowers in the National Park?
- use of plants in medicine

Additional information
- Clothing for the excursion: In the mountains, the weather can surprise at any time – whether it’s cold or a local storm, it’s common. We recommend wearing clothing appropriate for the time of year and the weather, and also packing gloves, a hat, functional clothing and a warmer jacket – it will come in handy if you’re observing animals for a longer period of time. High hiking boots and a raincoat or waterproof jacket are a must.
